Cancelling instead of changing your mind

Normally, you have a right of withdrawal (right to change your mind) for 14 days when you buy something over the Internet, but there are some exceptions, including travel. However, there may be other possible actions to take, such as cancelling the trip. You do not have the right to get a refund on the ticket price, but you do have a right to be refunded air travel tax and any other fees included in the ticket. You must contact the airline yourself to make a cancellation and request refunds for the taxes and fees. The airline has the right to charge a cost to pay the money back if it was stated in the terms and conditions when you made the purchase.

If you want to travel at a different time, you can contact the airline to check if it is possible to rebook your ticket.

Cancellation cover insurance is sold as a supplement

Cancellation cover is a kind of insurance that means that you are better protected if you want to cancel your trip. It is not normally included in your home-owner’s or renter’s insurance, but is usually sold as a complement. If you pay for your trip with a credit or payment card, there may also be cancellation cover linked to the card. Keep in mind that just because you have a cancellation cover insurance, it is not certain that you can cancel a ticket in any way you want. It might only be valid under certain conditions.

Cancelling the trip due to the coronavirus pandemic

Despite the on-going pandemic, it is still the booking terms for your airline ticket that determine if you can cancel the ticket and demand a full refund. So if you did not buy a refundable ticket, you cannot demand to be able to cancel the ticket and get a full refund.

If you do not want to or cannot use the airline ticket, you can demand a refund for the air travel tax, but you cannot get a refund for the actual ticket price if you do not have a refundable ticket.

Cancelling the trip due to worry about travelling

Being worried about making a trip is not enough to have a right to cancel it and get a full refund.

So, if you bought a non-refundable airline ticket, the airline is not obliged to give you a refund if you cancel the trip due to worry. Many airlines nonetheless offer the possibility to rebook the trip or to obtain a voucher. Contact the airline company and ask them what they can offer you.

Ångra eller avboka flygresa

Du har ingen lagstadgad ångerrätt när du bokar flygresa. Flygbolagets egna villkor gäller. Du kan däremot avboka resan och få tillbaka flygskatt och andra eventuella avgifter som ingår i biljetten. 

Avboka i stället för att ångra 

I normala fall har du 14 dagars ångerrätt när du köper något över internet, men det finns några undantag och dit hör resor. Det kan däremot finnas andra möjligheter, som att avboka resan. Du har inte rätt att få tillbaka biljettpriset, men däremot flygskatt och andra eventuella avgifter som ingår i biljetten. Du måste själv vända dig till ditt flygbolag för att avbeställa och kräva tillbaka pengarna för skatterna och avgifterna. Flygbolaget har rätt att ta ut en kostnad för att betala tillbaka pengarna, under förutsättning att det framgår av villkoren. 

Om du vill resa vid ett annat tillfälle kan du kontakta flygbolaget för att kontrollera om det finns möjlighet till ombokning. 

Avbeställningsskydd säljs som tillägg 

Ett avbeställningsskydd är en slags försäkring som gör att du är bättre skyddad om du vill avbeställa din resa. Det ingår normalt inte i din hemförsäkring utan brukar säljas som ett tillägg. Om du betalar din resa med kredit- eller kontokort kan det även finnas ett avbeställningsskydd kopplat till kortet. Tänk på att bara för att du har ett avbeställningsskydd är det inte säkert att du kan avboka en biljett hur som helst, utan det kan gälla enbart under vissa förutsättningar. 

Avboka resan på grund av coronapandemin 

Trots den pågående pandemin så är det fortfarande bokningsvillkoren för din flygbiljett som avgör om du kan avboka biljetten och kräva full återbetalning. Har du inte köpt en återbetalningsbar biljett kan du alltså inte heller kräva att få avboka biljetten och få full återbetalning.  

Om du inte vill eller kan utnyttja flygbiljetten så kan du kräva att få tillbaka pengarna för flygskatten, men du kan inte kräva att få tillbaka själva biljettpriset om du inte har en återbetalningsbar biljett. 

Avboka resan på grund av oro för att åka 

Att du känner oro för att genomföra en resa är inte tillräckligt för att ha rätt att avboka den och få full återbetalning. 

 Har du köpt en icke återbetalningsbar flygbiljett så är flygbolaget alltså inte skyldig att ge dig pengarna tillbaka om du själv avbokar resan på grund av oro. Många flygbolag erbjuder ändå möjlighet att boka om resan, eller en voucher. Kontakta ditt flygbolag för att se om de kan erbjuda dig en lösning.
